Why pellets?
Pellets are compact, easy to store, and can provide strong heat for cold outdoor water.
Pellet hot tub
Rowkai is being developed around a simple idea: use pellets for the heavy heat, then use electric heat to keep the water ready.
What is a pellet hot tub?
Traditional electric hot tubs use electricity for nearly all heating. Wood-fired tubs use a firebox and need more attention. Rowkai is targeting a middle path: pellet heat for the heavy lifting, electric heat for steady comfort.
Pellets are compact, easy to store, and can provide strong heat for cold outdoor water.
Electric heat is useful for holding a precise water temperature once the tub is warm.
Owners are paying closer attention to energy use, outdoor living, cabins, and simpler products that feel less like indoor spas.
The Rowkai approach
The goal is outdoor heat that fits real life: fill the pellet cabinet, let the system do the hard part, then soak without managing logs all night.
Potential savings
These numbers use $0.18/kWh electricity, premium pellets at $350/ton, a modern insulated tub with a quality cover, water maintained around 102–104°F, and pellets supplying about 85–90% of the heating load. Final Rowkai performance has not been validated.
Estimated annual savings versus full electric.
Estimated annual savings versus full electric.
Possible annual savings where electricity costs $0.25–0.40/kWh.
Cold startup from about 60°F to 104°F is estimated at 20–30 lb of pellets for a medium tub and 30–40 lb for a large tub, or roughly $4–7 in pellets at the assumptions above.
Pellet hot tub FAQ
Yes, pellets can provide heat. Rowkai is being designed around pellet-assisted heating, not a manual wood firebox.
The target is electric temperature holding. Final electric-only behavior and recovery time will be published after validation.
The intended design keeps electric heat available, but heating speed and final behavior depend on production sizing.
No. Wood-fired tubs usually require logs and active fire tending. Rowkai is targeting pellet-assisted heat with electric temperature control.
That depends on local electric rates, pellet cost, climate, insulation, and usage. Rowkai will publish real operating targets after testing.
Rowkai has not announced an order date. Founder reservations are open to track demand before final specs and timing are released.
